  This is the perfect place in Knoxville to bridge the gap between the Americanized Mexican food most people here are used to and authentic Mexican cuisine. Many authentic places are a little bit too much of a culture shock for your average good old boy from the area, but Portillos combines an authentic menu with the look and feel of a typical American Mexican place. It can put to ease that family member or friend that you've wanted to get out of their comfort zone. They have pozole on the weekends, sometimes elotes, paletas, and other typical Mexican treats that are just waiting to be discovered. This place has the secret good stuff Americans have yet to become obsessed with, making it the perfect place to try something new with little risk of not liking it. The servers are friendly and fluent in English for the most part and the prices are super low for the quality you get. Also, there's a salsa bar with something for everyone. Great food, great service. I recomend the tacos de asada (steak tacos) off the authentic portion of the menu and then complimenting them with a sauce from the salsa bar. Having real tacos is the best way for newbies to transition into the authentic scene. If you're hungover, pozole or menudo on the weekends is the cure. If you are conservative and want your bland old tex me they do that great as well, but try and live a little. You'll find a new favorite thing, I'm sure of it. In short, quick service, authentic food with quality that far exceeds the low prices and Mexican treats you can't find elswe here in the area (TRUST ME I'VE LOOKED).

  Great food and affordable prices. A wide range of tacos and burritos with a real fresh made taste. Ice cream and beer as well. The tacos al pastor was delicious and the pork burrito has some great, tender pork seasoned perfectly
